As one of the pioneers, Ege University’s Psychology Department was founded in 1976 and the first graduates were the class of 1981-1982. The department was under the name of Behavioural Science back then and was a part of Faculty of Social Science. Today, as part of Faculty of Arts, our department continues to educate meticulously and conduct remarkable research at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
We are among seven prestigious psychology departments in the country, whose undergraduate program is accredited by the Turkish Psychological Association. This will prepare our students for their first step toward becoming a psychologist. We are also the first Social Science department that was accredited at Ege University.
We have 14 full-time faculty (2 professors, 5 associated professors, 4 assistant professors) along with 27 research assistants and 1 specialist who are also the full-time staff. The areas of training and research of our department are Clinical, Developmental, Experimental, Social Psychology and Psychometrics. We also regularly have invited lecturers who are excellent in their area of expertise. Guest academics from abroad have been welcomed in our department, as well.
Our undergraduate bachelor’s degree takes four years to complete and 30 % of the courses are taught in English. The university requires students to spend a year in English preparatory program prior to faculty lectures. Thus, students who are in need develop and improve their English. In their final year, students are encouraged to conduct a research project on a topic of their own interest with advisory help and finalize by writing an undergraduate thesis. With a degree in psychology, we aim to provide students with in-depth scientific knowledge on a wide-range of concepts in psychology and related disciplines. Our undergraduate program keeps up-to-date with the latest developments in the field, changing needs of the community. In addition to the mandatory courses, we also offer various electives in related disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, economy, and physiology.
Our graduate programs recruit in particular periods and they are offered in areas of Clinical, Developmental, Experimental, Social Psychology, and Psychometrics. In each area of training and research, both M.A. and Ph.D. programs are offered.
