As one of the pioneers, Ege University’s Psychology Department was founded in 1976 and the first graduates were the class of 1981-1982. The department was under the name of Behavioural Science back then and was a part of Faculty of Social Science. Today, as part of Faculty of Letters, our department continues to educate meticulously and conduct remarkable research at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
We are among seven prestigious psychology departments in the country, whose undergraduate program is accredited by the Turkish Psychological Association till February of 2025. We are also the first Social Science department that was accredited at Ege University.
We have 3 professors,
8 associate professors,
5 assistant professors along with
12 research assistants.
Our department's training and research areas are Clinical, Developmental, Experimental, Social Psychology, and Psychometrics. We also regularly invite lecturers in their area of expertise. Guest academics from abroad have been welcomed in our department, as well.
Our undergraduate bachelor’s degree takes four years to complete and 30 % of the courses are taught in English. The university requires students to spend a year in an English preparatory program before faculty lectures. Thus, students who are in need develop and improve their English. In their final year, students are encouraged to conduct a research project on a topic of their interest with advisory help and finalize by writing an undergraduate thesis. With a degree in psychology, we aim to provide students with in-depth scientific knowledge on a wide range of concepts in psychology and related disciplines. Our undergraduate program keeps up-to-date with the latest field developments and changing community needs. In addition to the mandatory courses, we also offer various electives in related disciplines such as philosophy, sociology, economy, and physiology.
Our graduate programs recruit in particular periods and they are offered in areas of Clinical, Developmental, Experimental, Social Psychology, and Psychometrics. In each area of training and research, both M.A. and Ph.D. programs are offered.
